Until now, in order for organizations to lawfully process personal data, they were required to comply with *Organic Law 15/1999*, December 13. The Data Protection Law and its Implementing Regulations.
However, the risks involved in new treatment systems, the increase in the magnitude of data exchange and collection and the lack of harmonization between the regulations of the different Member States, prompted the European institutions to enact the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The new GDPR will become mandatory on May 25, 2018, which means organizations must adapt to the new requirements imposed by the GDPR as quickly as possible.
